ABOUT ME:
I have been a part of the Dunmore Faculty for 26 years and have been in education for 30 years.
I live in Stroudsburg with my husband, a professor at ESU, and my two sons, Logan and Duncan.
I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in Communications Education/Theatre.
I also have an additional 30 credits in curriculum and instruction.
I was a certified grader for Educational Testing Services for the Praxis test (teacher certification).
I am also certified to teach AP courses.
I have studied "The Four Pillars of Wellbeing" with the Contentment Foundation.
This program is the basis of the Mindfulness Course.
When students' social/emotional needs are met, they are more suited to learning and maintaining knowledge.
Before teaching at Dunmore, I taught 9th-grade English at Pottstown High School.
I also worked at Lourdesmont as a Behavior Management Specialist.
I was the drama director at Valley View High School for two years.
I teach a variety of ELA courses as well as a Mindfulness rotation course.
When I first began my tenure at Dunmore, I was the drama director but I had to step down from the position when I moved to Stroudsburg.
I thoroughly enjoy my job and am proud to teach at Dunmore. I hope to enrich the lives of our students.

ABOUT THE MINDFULNESS COURSE:
Although the name of the course is Mindfulness, this class is much more. The basis of the course is SEL (Social Emotional Learning), which is a strong predictor of personal and academic success. I have attached a link to a scholarly article about this subject below.
The course is based on the Four Pillars program that has been created by the Contentment Foundation (see the link below) and has been gifted to the district through a grant from the Roddenberry Foundation. The CEO of the Contentment Foundation is Dr. Daniel Cordaro, a 2003 graduate of Dunmore High School (see his Linkedin profile below). I had the honor of working for the Contentment Foundation over the summer of 2020, helping to redesign the high school curriculum. I was fortunate enough to have had assistance from five Dunmore High School students (Liam Ahern, Cadence Lewis, Ally McNeff, Ayman Mounota, and Jessica Trauger), who previewed and offered valuable constructive criticism about each lesson.
It is my pleasure to bring this important course to Dunmore and I know that Dr. Cordero is overjoyed to have the Four Pillars as part of the 9th-grade D.H.S. curriculum. I look forward to working with all of you this year and creating a culture of kindness, self-love, and understanding.
"...emotional content should be included in educational programs directed at working on general academic competencies, as well as specific subjects using educational applications for the purpose. This could lead to significant student learning, with the consequent acquisition of personal resources for effectively coping with new academic challenges."
