From Mrs. Zywicki: The DHS Music Guild was planning on hosting a cabaret fundraiser on Sunday, April 19th. Since that is no longer possible, we’ve decided to hold the cabaret online! The virtual cabaret will take place on Facebook on Saturday, April 11th on the Facebook event page. Members of the band and chorus are recording videos of themselves performing, and the videos will be uploaded starting at 2:00 pm that day. The kids are super excited to perform and share their talents! Please join our event, and please share on your own Facebook pages! Thank you!  Link: https://www.facebook.com/events/s/dunmore-high-school-music-guil/590320398231695/

UPDATE March 26th

Dear Parents/Guardians,

First and foremost, I want to say that I hope everyone is safe, healthy, and enjoying some extra time with their families.  It has been a very tumultuous and scary time for us all.

Please know that the Dunmore School District Board of Directors and Administrative Team have been working tirelessly to devise a way for our teachers to communicate with students/families and provide enrichment activities to ensure that students are able to practice their skills and keep their minds active.

We put a program in place to provide families access to devices.    These devices will not function without Wi-Fi.  The District has found that there are programs available to those in need.  Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots will be available for anyone who needs them for free.  For a map of Xfinity Wi-Fi Hotspots visit www.xfinity.com/wifi  It is your responsibility to contact the provider.

Please know, the enrichment being provided to students is optional, though we strongly encourage them to participate.  I understand that these circumstances are not ideal, however, we are trying to make the best of the unprecedented situation that we were handed.  Ultimately, we are trying to do what is best for our students.  This system will work best with some level of active supervision in the home.

At this point, this educational experience is not mandatory.  It will take on many different styles.  It has been communicated to the faculty that modeling, facilitating, explanation, interaction, engagement, correction, just about any strategy is acceptable and encouraged.  There will be NO grading, timelines, rating, or consequence attached to any work and no penalty for non participation.  There are reasons for this and the option we have chosen was arrived at in conjunction with guidelines provided by PDE.  It is not an attempt to be evasive or mysterious.  Legal advice and opinion has been absent, contradictory, and fluid.  This is not an insult to anyone, remember we have never experienced anything like this in our lifetimes.  So, please be patient, please be gracious and remember, no one caused this, we are all working to do what is best for our children.

Beginning Monday, March 30, 2020, we are going to attempt to begin to stimulate the minds of our students once again.  To become engaged, please take the following steps:

  • Select a School (upper-left-hand part of the page)
    • Choose whatever school your child attends.
    • No scanner or printer is needed
    • There may be sessions where teachers are live, this will result from coordination
      • Accessibility at any/all times is optimal
  • Class Pages (towards the middle of the menu bar)
  • Teacher Name (select your child’s teacher(s))
    • Academic content and materials will appear.  The teachers will also have the ability to communicate information, directions, and instructions.
      • Engagement will be key to success

There are going to be bumps in the road with this program roll out.  If there are questions/issues/concerns, please call your child’s school.

In closing, I would like to reiterate that none of us have ever experienced anything like this in our lifetimes.  We are going to experience some difficulties.  Something isn’t going to work, things will need to be adapted.  Please communicate any issue to the District.  We will work tirelessly and exhaust everything at our disposal to solve problems.  Our students deserve and need the opportunity to grow.  This is our attempt at getting that necessity moving towards reality.  Again, this will be more successful with a support piece from within the home.  Sometimes out of crisis emerges great opportunity.  Our students can learn many lessons from this shift in paradigm.  I am sure they cannot do it alone.

My experience is that no community comes together and helps its own like DUNMORE!

Please stay healthy and safe.

Superintendent, Dunmore School District

This is John Marichak, Superintendent of the Dunmore School District.

I am calling to update everyone on upcoming events.

We will be rolling out a continuance of education program for our students.

This will not begin until Monday for several reasons.

This program is dependent upon the use of technology.

We will be distributing devices to those who may need them.  Please call to arrange an appointment as we want to ensure everyone’s safety by not having crowds at our school entrances.

The details of the device pickup are on our district web site.

Our faculty is working very hard to be prepared.

We need a few days to iron out the logistics, but are moving forward in a positive fashion.

We realize that there are many questions and concerns.  We will be providing more information as the week rolls on.

We ask that you be patient and gracious in this transition.  We are all in this together and are working towards getting our students back on track.

Please stay safe.

Superintendent, Dunmore School District

This is John Marichak, Superintendent of the Dunmore School District.

I am calling to inform everyone that in the near future, we will be rolling out a continuance of education program for our students.

While the safety and welfare of our community is priority number one and the first issue to confront, we believe we must move our students forward and keep them engaged.

This program is going to be delivered through the use of technology.  While there will be many questions and concerns, the first step is to ensure that our students have devices at their disposal.

If you have a device in your home, we ask that you use that device as we, as a district, have a limited amount.  We want to be able to provide help to those who truly need it.  There will be only one device allotted per household.

If you do not have a device, we ask that you call your child’s respective school and make an appointment to pick a school-provided device up at the entrance of that school.  We emphasis that an appointment should be made so we can properly space the pickup out to ensure everyone’s safety.

A statement of responsibility must be signed.  This is to be sure that the school receives the device back in the condition it was distributed.  There is a replacement cost of $300 that you will be responsible for if the device is not returned or is damaged.

The appointments will made tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24 between 9AM and 12 PM by phone.  Pickups will begin at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.  Again, you need an appointment.

There will be more information to follow.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Please stay safe

John Marichak

Superintendent, Dunmore School District

Xfinity WiFi hotspots will be available for anyone who needs them for free -- including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers.  Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the "xfinity wifi" network name in the list of available hotspots, and then launch a browser.
